Em 1938 muitos estadunidenses ficaram em choque ao ouvir na rádio como estavam sendo invadidos por alienígenas. Eles, assim como milhares ao longo dos E.U. não imaginavam que estavam sendo apenas objeto duma peça de rádio-teatro baseada no clássico de ficção "A Guerra dos Mundos" de Herbert George Wells. O radio-drama era obra da companhia Mercury Theatre da Nova York, dirigida pelo prodígio da cinematografia Orson Welles, naquele então de apenas 23 anos.

Ha muita dúvida sobre a dimensão real do pânico provocado, e muitos dizem que a mesma mídia tem exagerado o asunto para provocar polemica e tirar proveito econômico. Polêmica à parte, o sucesso virou clássico de tal jeito, que ainda é transmitido por muitas rádios cada Halloween.

Ladies and gentlemen, the director of the Mercury Theatre and star of these broadcasts, Orson Welles.

We know now that in the early years of the twentieth century this world was being watched closely by intelligences greater than man's, and yet as mortal as his own. We know now that as human beings busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinized and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinize the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water.
With infinite complacence people went to and fro over the earth about their little affairs, serene in the assurance of their dominion over this small, spinning fragment of solar driftwood which, by chance or design, man has inherited out of the dark mystery of Time and Space.
Yet across an immense ethereal gulf, minds that are to our minds as ours are to the beasts in the jungle, intellects vast, cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.
In the thirty-ninth year of the twentieth century came the great disillusionment. It was near the end of October. Business was better. The war scare was over. More men were back at work. Sales were picking up. On this particular evening, October 30th, the Crosley service estimated that thirty-two million people were listening in on radios.

No dia 05 de junho o ex-presidente dos EUA, Bill Clinton, atual Chanceler da Laureate International Universities – rede internacional de universidades - para América Latina, da qual a Universidade Potiguar faz parte, esteve em Natal (RN) para ministrar uma palestra em comemoração aos 30 anos da UnP

Em destaque na foto está a professora de Inglês e Espanhol da Wizard, Ana Carolina de Almeida Prado, aluna do Curso de Relações Internacionais da UnP e selecionada para recepcionar e apoiar a equipe de segurança do serviço secreto americano (FBI) e a Polícia Federal, como tradutora.

Os alunos e funcionários da Wizard Natal Cidade Verde - Parnamirim sentem-se orgulhosos da professora Carol ter sido a selecionada, entre os 30.000 alunos da UnP, para realizar esse trabalho.

Parabéns Carol! E parabéns à Wizard por ter, em seu seleto quadro de professores, uma profissional em função tão destacada!
